A replacement remote is rarely an exciting purchase, but it can remove a daily irritation immediately. Roku’s TV Remote is designed for Roku TV models, with television controls and preset app shortcuts. The critical distinction is in the name: this is a remote for a Roku TV, not a general remote for every device carrying the Roku brand.
Why consider it
The appeal is simplicity. A basic replacement can be more appropriate than buying features you do not need, especially when the original remote has been misplaced or damaged. Roku lists TV power, volume and mute controls for this model. For a household that wants a familiar physical control, that may be the entire job.
The tradeoffs
Roku states that the TV Remote is not compatible with Roku players or Roku audio devices. That includes the streaming-stick use case many shoppers might assume is covered. Its simple control approach also differs from the voice-capable remotes elsewhere in Roku’s range. Do not infer voice search or a lost-remote finder from a photograph of a similar-looking product.
What to compare
If you own a Roku streaming player or stick, use Roku’s compatibility guide to identify the correct remote instead. If you want voice features, compare a supported voice remote against the exact television or player you own. The less expensive remote is only the better value when it controls the right device.
Before you buy
Look up the television model before ordering and distinguish the TV’s operating platform from a separate box connected by HDMI. A TV made by a brand that also sells Roku models is not necessarily a Roku TV. We have not tested range, button feel or durability; this recommendation is conditional on the manufacturer’s stated compatibility.
