Some watches ask to be noticed from across a room. The Bulgari Octo Finissimo makes a more interesting demand: look closer. Its stepped geometry, sharply drawn bracelet, and restrained dial turn a familiar object into a small piece of architecture. The new 37 mm version makes that design proposition especially worth considering.
Our editorial view is that the strongest reason to investigate this watch is its relationship between shape and scale. A smaller diameter gives the eye less surface to travel across, while the case's geometry still provides plenty to study. For someone who appreciates industrial design as much as a watchmaker's signature, that is an appealing starting point.
This is a research-based assessment of the titanium automatic models. We have not worn or independently tested either reference. Specifications and prices below come from Bulgari; design judgments are our own.
The two titanium versions
Bulgari offers the automatic in sandblasted titanium, reference 104089, and satin-polished titanium, reference 104351. Both use a 37 mm case measuring 6.45 mm thick. The U.S. manufacturer listings checked for this article show $16,600 and $17,400 respectively, before tax. [1][2]

| Detail | Sandblasted titanium | Satin-polished titanium |
|---|---|---|
| Reference | 104089 | 104351 |
| Diameter | 37 mm | 37 mm |
| Case thickness | 6.45 mm | 6.45 mm |
| Dial | Opaline titanium | Opaline titanium |
| Hands and indexes | Black | Rhodium-plated |

The difference deserves attention because surface treatment changes how a geometric object reads. In the official imagery, the sandblasted treatment creates a more unified gray composition. The satin-polished version gives the eye more changes of brightness across the bracelet and case. [1][2]
We would start with the sandblasted model if the attraction is the purity of the design. The satin-polished version makes more sense if you want the geometry to register through reflected light. Neither preference establishes which will be easier to read in your daily surroundings; examine both under ordinary indoor lighting before choosing.
Why the smaller format matters
Diameter is a useful filter, but an incomplete description of a watch. Case shape, bracelet articulation, and the way the first links fall around the wrist can change the experience substantially. A measurement on a product page cannot settle that question.
For this design, the shopping exercise should be practical. Look straight down at the dial, then look at your wrist in a mirror. Bend your hand back. Check how the bracelet sits when your arm hangs naturally. If you usually wear larger watches, decide whether the compact presentation feels deliberately elegant or simply smaller than you enjoy.
There is no advantage in buying the size that sounds sophisticated if you spend the next year wishing it had more presence. Conversely, a watch does not need to occupy the width of your wrist to have a strong identity. The Octo's visual argument rests on its lines.
The movement supports the idea
Inside the titanium automatics is Bulgari's BVF 100, a self-winding movement with a platinum micro-rotor and a stated 72-hour power reserve. It displays hours, minutes, and small seconds; there is no date display. Bulgari specifies a movement thickness of 2.35 mm and a transparent caseback. [1][2]
The appeal here is coherence. A slim mechanical construction suits a watch whose design asks you to pay attention to proportion. The micro-rotor also gives a mechanically curious buyer something to investigate beyond the dial.
For ownership, the absent date is a more consequential detail than another decorative flourish. If you check the date throughout the workday, make that part of your decision. A clean dial can be attractive and still omit a function you use. The stated reserve is useful context, but this article contains no independent measurements of running time or accuracy.
The limitation to weigh carefully
Bulgari lists water resistance at 30 meters for both references. [1][2] Anyone seeking one watch for office wear, travel, swimming, and weekends should resolve the intended-use question with the manufacturer before buying. The modern titanium appearance alone does not establish suitability for a particular activity.
Service deserves an equally practical conversation. Ask for current service arrangements, an indicative maintenance quote, warranty terms, and the process for addressing bracelet or clasp problems. We have not obtained model-specific service prices, so they are excluded from the ownership calculation here.
Where the titanium family branches
Bulgari's 37 mm presentation also includes a yellow-gold automatic and a titanium minute repeater. The repeater uses the BVL 362 caliber. [3] It should be treated as a separate proposition rather than another finish of the automatic reviewed here.
For this feature, keeping the two titanium automatics together makes the comparison useful. A buyer can focus on finish, legibility, fit, and price without mixing fundamentally different mechanisms into the verdict.
The Modernist verdict
The Octo Finissimo 37 mm deserves a place on the shortlist of someone who wants a mechanical watch with a distinct design vocabulary. Our preference on visual grounds is the sandblasted titanium: its restraint lets the geometry do the work. The satin-polished model is the more expressive alternative.
The decision turns on three questions. Do you enjoy the proportions on your own wrist? Can you comfortably live without a date? Does the watch fit your actual wearing habits, including the manufacturer's use guidance?
If those answers align, this is a compelling design to explore in person. Buy it for the object you want to wear. This review does not assess resale prices or predict appreciation.
